February 3, 2017

When the holidays are over and the weather stays dreary, it can be easy to slip into a seasonal “down in the dumps” feel. Living in San Francisco means there are so many events for every part of the year, so it’s easy to never feel bored. Here is a list of all the happenings we’re excited about this month:

SF Indie Fest: The annual SF Indie Fest, now in its 19th year, celebrates independent, alternative films and filmmakers. During these two weeks, you’ll have the chance to watch nearly 80 original works at various venues, mostly at the Brava Theater and the Roxie Theater in SF.

Dates: February 2 – 16

Chinese New Year: The Chinese New Year celebration in San Francisco is a yearly tradition that boasts one of the largest parades of its kind in the world. Held in the colorful Chinatown neighborhood, the festivities include lion dancers, giant dragons, traditional drums and firecrackers, colorful decorations, and much more. Other than the parade, you’ll find the Miss Chinatown USA pageant, a flower market, a 10K run, and other activities for several weeks.

Dates: February 11 (Parade), January 21 – February 19 (All Events)

Noise Pop Music & Art Festival: This year marks the 25th anniversary of Noise Pop in San Francisco, a giant festival of independent music, film, and art. Over 150 bands will perform at different spots around the city, such as The Bottom of the Hill, Bimbo’s, and the Great American Music Hall. This event is well known for featuring upcoming independent groups that have gone on to become big names, such as The White Stripes, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, Jimmy Eat World, The Flaming Lips, and many more!

Dates: February 17 – 26

Living in SOMA means to be in the middle of all that San Francisco offers. The month of February is filled with exciting events and festivals, it will be difficult to choose!
