Best Vegan Restaurants in SoMa
Those of us who’ve tried vegan know how good it is – how tasty and, in most cases, it’s utterly indistinguishable from non-vegan food. But where in SoMa can you find the best vegan restaurants? That’s the focus of our new blog so let’s dive straight in!
Kicking off our blog on the best vegan restaurants in SoMa is Moya over at 121 9th Street and open Mon-Sat. The food here is amazing! It’s an Ethiopian restaurant with vegan options where you order at the counter. Expect amazing Mushroom Tibs (mushrooms stir-fried with onion, tomatoes, garlic and berbere), Atkilt Wot (a stew made from potato, carrots, green bean and cabbage), and Gomen (collard greens sautéed with garlic, onion and a secret-spice blend). It’s all very delicious!
Next up on our blog on the best vegan restaurants in SoMa is the Loving Hut over at 845 Market Street and open Mon-Sat from 10am-8:30pm and Sundays from 10am-7pm. Yes, it’s a chain and yes it’s in a mall but wow, what taste! We sampled their “meatball marinara” sub, the Rainbow Salad, and the Queen Sandwich and we loved all of them. Next time we go back we’re going to try the Pho Noodle soup!
Rounding out our blog on the best vegan restaurants in SoMa is Dabba over at 71 Stevenson Street and open Mondays-Fridays. It’s a very clean place (Dabba is Hindi for “Lunchbox”) and the food is fantastic. It’s vegan-friendly and serves up some amazing lunchboxes that come in three forms; the taco, the burrito and the bowl. For that full vegan experience, choose the bowl that comes with their family recipe comprising of garbanzo beans, pickled carrots, tamarind, chutney and yogurt – then fill it with their veggie option! It’s yabba dabba delicious!
