The Best October Events Around SoMa

October in SoMa can be pretty hectic with lots going on and tons to do. But which are the ones worth your time? That’s the focus of our brand new blog, the Best October Events Around SoMa.

Kicking off our blog on the best October events around SoMa is the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival that runs for three days (Oct 6-8) at the Golden Gate Park. It’s a free event that hosts 90 different musical acts across seven different stages, and the SF Gate calls it one of the “Things you must do in the Bay Area before you die.” Hosted at Hellman Hollow, the full schedule is currently under wraps but if you visit their website you can hunt for clues in their podcast.

Next up on our blog on the best October events around SoMa is Fleet Week, from October 2-9 at Marina Green. Hosted since the early 80’s by the US Navy, you can expect their acrobatic Blue Angels, amazing air shows and free tours of battleships, all of which descend on San Francisco Bay over the weekend. On Friday, it kicks off with the Parade of Ships at 10am which dovetails at Noon into the Air Show. If you miss that, don’t worry; the air shows will be held on Saturday and Sunday too, on each day from Noon-4pm.

Finishing up our blog on the best October events around SoMa is the Litquake, running from Oct 6-14th. Begun 18 years ago with just 22 authors on hand to read from their works, the Litquake is now around nine days long and features almost 600 authors! From panels to autograph sessions, this is all about books, books and more books. Expect a lot of fun – period! (see what we did there?)

Whatever you decide to do in October around SoMa, make sure you drink responsibly and stay safe. Have fun!
