The Best December Events Around the SoMa to Get You Into the Holiday Spirit
The Holidays are upon us! And as this only happens but once a year, it’s always fun to throw yourself into the holiday spirit. So what are the best December events happening around SoMa that can get you into the holiday spirit? We thought you’d never ask!
Let’s kick off with the Union Street Fantasy of Lights kicking off on Saturday, December 2 from 3pm-7pm. Thousands of holiday lights transform Union Street into a Winter Wonderland with jugglers, ponies dressed as reindeer, face painters, balloon artists and singers, live entertainment and more. Take a Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride or decorate a holiday ornament, or even meet Santa himself! Donate toys for needy children and partake in the food and drinks on hand as local merchants will be staying open until 9 pm on weekends.
How does the Great Santa Run San Francisco sound? The fun begins on Sunday, Dec 10th, with the Great Santa Run 5k starting at 8:30am and the Rudolph One Miler beginning at 9am. The races start and finish at Crissy Field across from the Sports Basement Presidio (where you can stop by the day before, Dec 9, to pick up your packets). Yes, you’ll be running in a Santa suit and best of all it benefits a bunch of amazing charities. Even if you don’t want to run yourself, come on out and cheers along all the Santas who’ll be there! Ho ho ho!
There’s also the beautiful Union Square Menorah Lighting which runs for 8 nights in Union Square at the Bill Graham Menorah Project. It kicks off on Tuesday, Dec 12 and on Saturday they’ll be a parade after the lighting. On Sunday, Dec 17, there’s a full day of stuff, from a Dreidel House for the kids to live music.
So much holiday stuff to do in December that will get you into the holiday spirit – so what are you waiting for? Have fun and appreciate another holiday season in this crazy, fun, amazing city.
